If sued in the U.S., it seems fair to ask who your accuser is. Unfortunately, oftentimes you can’t. Most U.S. Federal Courts require inadequate disclosure, ignoring who funds and controls litigation. And, as it turns out, a fair chunk of lawsuits are propped-up and controlled by private investors. Usually, such third-party litigation funding, or TPLF, is anonymous; investors can finance legal disputes to the tune of $50 million dollars or more, in exchange for a share of any settlement or judgment.
