In the version of the article initially published, in Figs. 1b, 3a and 3a inset, the lower x axes were “Energy (× 10–3 cm–1)” and have been corrected to “Energy (× 103 cm–1)”. AbstractGrowing interest in the use of first-row transition metal complexes in a number of applied contexts—including but not limited to photoredox catalysis and solar energy conversion—underscores the need for a detailed understanding of their photophysical properties. A recent focus on ligand-field photocatalysis using cobalt(III) polypyridyls in particular has unlocked unprecedented excited-state reactivities.
