Review rating … A “Fix” is recommended with a rating between 6 and 10. A “No Fix” is not recommended with a rating between 1 to 5. Thunderbolts* (now playing) – Fix Rating 7/10 – There is an asterisk in the title of this MCU film for a strategic reason. But the reveal behind the use of that typographic symbol isn’t what makes the film so special.

Slasher fans deserve better than “Clown in a Cornfield.” There’s nothing of substance built around its gruesome collection of splatter kills. And even at an hour and a half, without any hint of a coherent mythology, viewer interest quickly wanders elsewhere.

Soulful Delta blues music leads Ryan Coogler’s beautiful and ambitious “Sinners.” By blending historical realism with supernatural elements, Coogler’s wholly original project is a remarkable success featuring themes that should resonate with theatrical staying power. Set in 1930s Mississippi, “Sinners” has twin brothers, Smoke and Stack (both played by Michael B. Jordan), returning to their hometown of Clarksdale after being away for many years.

“Death of a Unicorn” is spoiled by the trailers. The best jokes and the film’s twist are all there in less than two minutes. Sadly, while those jokes still land, besides the goofy performances by a game cast, the film has little to offer. The story has precocious teen Ridley (Jenna Ortega) joining her corporate lawyer father, Elliot (Paul Rudd), on a company weekend retreat of sorts. They fly to a remote location in the Canadian Rockies (the film was shot in Hungary, doubling for Canada).
