1 Background Maternal obesity has become an increasingly alarming issue, with an estimated prevalence as high as 70% in some countries [1]. This is a significant cause for concern, as prepregnancy obesity is associated with an increased risk of obstetric complications such as stillbirth, preterm birth, gestational diabetes, and pre-eclampsia [2], in addition to the increased risk of long-term conditions for the offspring such as obesity and cardiovascular disease [3].
