While Goku and the Z-Fighters are legendary, the anime's villains often steal the spotlight, making viewers tune in every week hoping to see them finally get their Kamehameha-flavored comeuppance.

"Toonami" is a word that fills anime fans of a certain age with warm, fuzzy nostalgia. Running from 1997 to 2008 (in various forms), Toonami was a themed programming block on Cartoon Network aimed at older children and adolescents. Notably, the block focused on action-oriented cartoons and anime imported from Japan. As time went on, Toonami became deeply associated with Dragon Ball Z in particular.

Dragon Ball is a fascinating franchise. During its exceptionally long run, Akira Toriyama changed the story's genre, scope, and tone several times while still maintaining a cohesive narrative and tone, something few writers struggle to pull off once, let alone multiple times in the same series. The most mesmerizing example of this is Dragon Ball Z Episode 2, where Toriyama revitalized the series and fixed a major Goku problem within a few scenes.
