Highlighting and undoing the ruinous 14-year Tory legacy will run and run – it is the gift that keeps on giving for Labour, even if it is already a bit irksome. The Green Party is still celebrating. After 14 years with just one MP at Westminster, it now has four, after a hard-fought win against Labour in Bristol Central, two wins against the Tories (in North Herefordshire and Waveney Valley), whilst easily retaining Brighton Pavilion. By any historical precedent, this is a transformative moment for the Green Party.

Finally, it is claimed that new fields, like Rosebank, are in line with the UK’s climate targets. In fact, just allowing the Rosebank oil field to proceed would see the oil and gas industry bust its agreed emissions targets (which keep the industry in line with the wider UK targets). And that’s just the emissions from producing the oil. Burning Rosebank’s 500m barrels would create more CO2 than the combined carbon emissions of all 28 lowest-income countries in the world.

On Friday 2 June, in Paris, 170 nations signed up to an agreement to draft a Global Plastics Treaty by the end of 2024. This is a positive step on our journey to tackle plastic pollution. But don’t hold your breath. The meaningful nature of the treaty is under threat. The fossil fuel and petrochemical industries were all over the conference in Paris, doing everything they could to slow things down and talk up the benefits of doing things voluntarily.
