SB 1120 (the “Bill”), which takes effect on January 1, 2025, amends existing California law to adopt guardrails around the use of artificial intelligence tools for the purpose of utilization management.[1] As discussed in a prior Proskauer alert, the Bill represents one of the latest attempts by the California legislature to regulate the use of AI in the health care industry.

Since 2006, Proskauer has partnered with the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law to help lead the non-partisan Election Protection hotline (866-Our-Vote). This election cycle, Proskauer will once again lead the Midwest call center, in collaboration with the legal departments of a number of corporate clients. On Election Day alone, our volunteers will staff over 70 shifts, contributing more than 315 hours of volunteer time.

On August 29, 2024, the Office for Civil Rights of the United States Department of Health and Human Services ("HHS-OCR") withdrew its appeal of an order by the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas' ("District Court") declaring unlawful and vacating a portion of an HHS-OCR Bulletin, "Use of Online Tracking Technologies by HIPAA Covered Entities and Business Associates." See Am. Hosp. Ass'n v. Becerra, No. 4:23-cv-1110 (N.D. Tex. June 20, 2024).
