A road operator has said that repairing a landslip-hit bridge is “extremely complex and challenging” after news that works will take more than a year in total. It was announced on Wednesday (May 14) that there would be a two-month delay to the scheduled reopening of Keith’s Union Bridge. Roads operator Amey was originally due to finish the project and reopen the road by May 18 this year - however that date has been shoved back to July 25.

ScotRail will discontinue an early morning train service between Elgin and Inverness from this weekend. As reported in April, the 7.18am service from Elgin to Inverness is being axed due to “low demand”. Timetables are changing on Sunday (May 18) across all routes in Scotland. The 6.56am train between Elgin and Inverness will continue to operate and will now run with three carriages. The 7.43am service will also continue to run.

Highlands and Islands MSP Douglas Ross voted against the Assisted Dying Bill in the Scottish Parliament. The former Moray MP described the vote as “one of the most difficult” that he has had to consider in his political career. The Assisted Dying for Terminally Ill Adults (Scotland) Bill was brought forward by Liberal Democrat MSP Liam McArthur and debated in Holyrood yesterday (Tuesday, May 14).

Moray Council has banned the use of mobile phones in schools. Devices will be banned entirely from primary schools, while secondary pupils will need to keep phones switched off and out of sight during the school day. There are exemptions to both rules if phones are needed for medical or health reasons. New rules will take effect from August 2025. The move comes after a consultation with parents, carers, pupils and school staff which received 3283 responses.

United Airlines has just revealed to much fanfare in New York, its latest Polaris business class cabins, debuting on the forthcoming Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. These cabins, designed in part by the esteemed London-based studio PriestmanGoode, set the scene for a progressive evolution of United’s brand, and the first new International Business Class product for the airline since the original Polaris surfaced in 2016.
