The 125th US Open is underway as the brutally difficult Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania hosts for the 10th time. World No.1 Scottie Scheffler enters the week as heavy favorite ahead of the likes of defending champion Bryson DeChambeau and Masters winner Rory McIlroy. DeChambeau and McIlroy are out in the morning in two of the big US Open featured groups, with Scheffler starting his championship in the afternoon.

For three of the best male golfers in the game right now, life is very good. Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Joaquin Niemann are winning regularly and picking up large checks as they do so, propelling them to the top of golf's highest earner list. McIlroy might have missed the cut at the RBC Canadian Open, but his 2025 season otherwise has been incredible - topped off by completing the career Grand Slam at The Masters.

Unlike the Major that comes before it in the calendar, the PGA Championship, one accusation that can't be levelled at the US Open is a lack of defined characteristics, with the tournament regularly striking fear into players based on its sheer brutality. There are few places where that has been more pronounced than at Oakmont editions of the US Open.
