Playing for Leicester City in the Championship again would harm Wout Faes’ international opportunities, it has been suggested, pushing the Belgian defender towards a summer exit. Faes is a contender to leave City this summer having attracted reported interest from the likes of Lazio over the past six months. And it has been reported in his native Belgium that his continued involvement in the national set-up is dependent on him earning a transfer.

Leicester City managerial favourite Russell Martin is the new Rangers boss, taking him off the market should Ruud van Nistelrooy be sacked. Just over a week ago, widespread reports suggested van Nistelrooy was on the verge of losing his job at City and that former Southampton manager Martin was on course to take his place. Now, Martin has signed a three-year contract with Rangers and will do battle with Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic in the Scottish Premiership from next season.

Leicester City have 10 players who will enter the final 12 months of their contracts at the end of June and so decisions on their futures are a priority. If City foresee them having a long-term impact, then they ideally need to be signed up to a new deal sooner rather than later. If City do not envisage them representing the club into the future, then they either have to sell them this summer or utilise them for one more season before letting them go on a free transfer.

In the week before Leicester City’s last Championship campaign began, Enzo Maresca claimed six players had had a change of heart over their futures. The half-dozen had signalled their intent to leave the King Power Stadium at the start of the summer, but after a month of working with the Italian had told him of their desire to stay. Maresca turned down the opportunity to name the City players and so the claim was his word alone, but it doesn’t feel far-fetched with what followed after.

Leicester City’s King Power Stadium supporter base has been refreshed with more than 2,000 new season-ticket holders grabbing their seat for the Championship campaign. City announced on Wednesday that they had sold all of their season tickets, with fans signing up to back the team in spite of their relegation. And the fanbase at home games may have a fresh feel to it next term because of a lower-than-usual renewal rate.

There was criticism directed Alves’s way following Cardiff’s relegation. Was it justified or did he just get caught in the crossfire? Thanks to @GlenWilliams12 for insight on the final few weeks of Alves’s loan and where he can improve next season. #LCFC https://t.co/hAi3hQamz8

Reflections on Saturday’s win, focusing on the discontent in the stands (and the timing of it), and on van Nistelrooy’s team selection and the lack of incentive to “shape the future”. #LCFC https://t.co/vYRe6p2WdD
