INTRODUCTION Walleye Sander vitreus are a popular sport fish with populations that have been declining range wide over the past few decades (Hansen et al. 2015b). These declines have generally been attributed to reduced natural recruitment (Embke et al. 2019), which in turn has led to frequent missing year-classes, as well as making it difficult to predict future recruitment (Gostiaux et al. 2022).
