Are you running Kubuntu Linux or another distro that uses the KDE Plasma desktop environment? Then you're missing out if you aren't taking advantage of a little search bar called KRunner. KDE Plasma is well known as a productivity and power user-friendly desktop environment for Linux distros and FreeBSD. I've been using it regularly for years. In fact, right now I'm daily-driving two different versions of Plasma on both my Kubuntu Focus laptop and my desktop computer running Garuda.

You've probably heard that Linux distros lack a lot of Windows functionality. That can be more or less true, but I'd argue that some of that functionality Linux is better off never adopting or imitating. Windows likes to insist, for some reason, that searching your computer needs to involve searching the internet too. If you hit the Start button and search for an app or a file, you get web search results from Bing in the Start menu too.

I spend a lot of time looking at open source projects, for work and for fun. One of the things I'll look at first is what kind of support and social links they have. I've learned to quickly tell, just by glancing at those icons, if the project is user-friendly and trustworthy. A Lone Discord Icon Is a Bad Omen I won't call any out, but I often come across open source software whose websites and repository read-me files will direct me for support to one horrifying place: Discord.

If you have a password manager, chances are you rely on an online account that tracks and stores all of your passwords. It's convenient, but you can actually keep your passwords stored off the internet while still syncing across devices. The trick here is that I'm using a network to sync my passwords—my private network, only. It's not open to anyone outside my home, even myself whenever I leave.
