Those experiences have led hundreds of teenagers to join coalitions on preventing drug use and tobacco use. Hundreds of those teens gathered Wednesday at the West Virginia State Capitol to advocate for “Tobacco-Free Day” and to prevent drug use in their communities.

MINGO COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – Roughly 4,500 households rely on the Mingo County Public Service District for clean water, yet in recent months, dozens of customers have said frequent water outages and discoloration in their water has disrupted their lives. The new Mingo County PSD Director, Chris Varney, officially took over one week ago. He shared with 13 News that fixing these long stemming water issues, attributed to the filtration system and water line leaks, will not be an immediate fix.

PIKE COUNTY, KY (WOWK) – Several homes and businesses were damaged in Floyd and Pike counties in severe weather overnight, and the National Weather Service is on the ground working to determine if that weather event was a tornado. One nonprofit organization known for helping others is now in need of help themselves. A United Helping Hands donation site was destroyed in the severe weather. Pieces of the roof were scattered around the building, with donations lost in piles of debris.

POCA, WV (WOWK) – Poca resident Daniel Priddy has always been a fighter, and he said he owes that mindset to the way he grew up. “My parents raised me to do everything I can do by myself. I’ve done everything anyone else can do,” Priddy said. Priddy was born with Tibial aplasia-ectrodactyly syndrome, a rare condition that lead to both of his legs being amputated and malformations in his hands. “I was born without shin bones. So, my legs were amputated when I was 18 months,” he said.

MINGO COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – Mingo County Public Service District (PSD) customers are reporting water outages and discolored water throughout this week. This comes just two months after the Public Service Commission of West Virginia announced an investigation into Mingo County’s PSD, citing “a failure to appropriately maintain sediment basins at the water treatment plant for years.”Concerned residents of Mingo County said they feel helpless after dealing with ongoing water issues for years.
