Friday evening’s cold front that produced a few showers will push all of the moisture Southward for Saturday. This will keep Northern Illinois dry and seasonable for Saturday afternoon, with highs near 60°. Rain showers will be possible closer to the front well to our South. The moisture surges back North Sunday morning, allowing for at least scattered showers to push through the area during the morning and early afternoon on Sunday.

In the early morning hours of Friday, cell phone alerts were going off across Southern Wisconsin. The warning from the National Weather Service read: “A DESTRUCTIVE severe thunderstorm was located near Edgerton moving east at 65 mph. 7:45PM UPDATE: The line of showers has struggled to grow very tall, likely owed to a strong cap just above the surface. If any of these showers can work through the capping, an isolated strong to severe storm may be possible, but the threat continues to diminish this evening. 6:15PM UPDATE: Showers are beginning to develop along the cold front this evening. There is still a chance they could intensify to strong or severe storms primarily near and East of I-39 between now and 8PM.

Beyond our storm threat Thursday and Friday, our next storm system will swing in over the holiday weekend. This wave will be driven by this dip or trough in the jet stream that will pass directly overhead Sunday evening. Ahead of it will be an increase in clouds and rain potential. Saturday will be dry with Friday’s cold front well to our South. Temperatures will only make it back near 60° for afternoon highs, but we will see some sunshine.
