The Los Angeles Lakers' season didn't end as they hoped it would after securing home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Minnesota was the underdog and wanted it more than LA. The series loss highlighted the Lakers' weaknesses, outlining the team's offseason priority list. Los Angeles received one of the biggest assists in NBA history from a conference rival when Dallas agreed to trade Luka Doncic to Hollywood.

Give Luka what he wants. The Los Angeles Lakers tried to give Luka Doncic what he wanted before he played in a game for the purple and gold. He asked for a lob threat, and before the deadline, the Lakers traded for Hornets center Mark Williams. Well, they almost did. It's win-or-go-home for Denver. The Denver Nuggets could've ended the Clippers' season in Game 6 on the road, but instead, lost 111-105, sending the series back to Ball Arena for Game 7. If the Lakers had won Game 5 to extend the series, LeBron would've been unable to play in Game 6, and even longer than that, as he would've been out for a few weeks. Los Angeles won only one of four games against Minnesota with LeBron in the lineup.

Indiana is a different team. The reason the Indiana Fever were in the position to draft Caitlin Clark was because they finished the previous season with a 13-27 record. Indiana drafted Aliyah Boston with the No. 1 overall pick a year before Clark, after winning only five games in 2023. Expectations rose in 2024 with Clark on the roster, and the season resulted in the Fever's first playoff berth since 2016.
