    I do what I can. In the ground-floor apartment I live in London, I have direct access from my kitchen to a shared yard that I have commandeered for the last nine years. In it, there is enough soil for me to grow some of my vegetables. As I have been vegan for more than 20 years, I not only grow vegetables to eat, but I also grow them in the “veganic way” (so, I happily share them with whatever wildlife wants them as I do not use any pesticides).

    On the 25th of April 2025, activists of the UK animal rights group Animal Justice Project (AJP) staged a publicity stunt in front of the UK Headquarters of the coffee chain Starbucks, demanding that they make plant-based milk their default milk. This happened amid backlash over Starbucks’ milk supplier, Arla. Arla was the subject of an undercover investigation that exposed how workers treated cows in one of the dairy farms in Yorkshire, where Starbucks gets cows’ milk.

    The trial for the six animal rights activists who, on the 3rd of April 2024, occupied the roof of Cranswick’s slaughterhouse in Watton, Norfolk, UK, to highlight the reality of gas chambers for pigs in the UK, has now begun – but has been adjourned until December. The activists, Joey Carbstrong (aka Joseph Armstrong), Karl Baker, Jacob Ball, Amelia Fishlock, Douglas Maw and Calvin Tasker, were charged with “Aggravated Trespass”.
