Hundreds of Australians have asked for government help to leave Iran and Israel as the conflict between the two countries trade deadly missile attacks in a worsening crisis. Foreign Minister Penny Wong revealed the figures today while calling for de-escalation on the fourth day of the conflict. She said about 350 Australians in Iran and 300 in Israel had registered with the government for help to leave the region.

Mystery surrounds Australia's newest multimillionaire hours after they won A$100 million (NZ$107 million) in Australia’s biggest Powerball jackpot of the year so far. The winning numbers in tonight's draw 1517 were 28, 10, 3, 16, 31, 14 and 21 and the Powerball was 6. Lottery officials said the individual winner from Sydney claimed the whole division one prize but might not even know it, because they weren't registered and hadn't come forward.

A British man who has reportedly survived the Air India flight that crashed carrying more than 240 people shortly after take-off, has detailed the disaster and asked for help to find his brother, who was also on board. Flight 171 was headed from Ahmedabad, in the north-west Indian state of Gujarat, to London Gatwick Airport on Thursday.

A storage facility fire that spewed smoke high into the air north of Brisbane has prompted an emergency declaration affecting hundreds of Queensland homes. Up to 75 firefighters were battling the blaze, which broke out at the business on Old Gympie Road, Burpengary, about 6pm last night. "A large volume of smoke is affecting the surrounding area, including the Bruce Highway," firefighters warned.
