Chip Zdarsky and Jorge Jimenez’ Batman run has been a fascinating book, to put it mildly. Sometimes, like the first arc and #900, it’s a really fun and cool book that operates as what I like to affectionately call my “Saturday Morning Batman book.” It doesn’t really have me thinking about a lot, but it’s certainly got its grip on me the whole time I’m reading through it.

If I had to summarize Gotham War in a few words, I’d say “it’s a mess.” Frankly, a very interesting premise that’s held back by the writing, both in terms of quality and in terms of committing to the premise. Even so, I think the first half is fine, sometimes good, until it sets up the back half. “How is that back half?” you may ask. I hate being outright mean towards comics. These things are hard to create, and a lot of work, unappreciated work, goes into them.

If you think FLAC is the audiophile's friend when it comes to lossless music files, a large language model (LLM) has news for you, as it's now laying claim to compression as part of AI's growing realm of influence, too. A study titled "Language Modeling Is Compression" (via ArsTechnica) discusses a finding about an LLM by DeepMind called Chinchilla 70B and its ability to perform lossless data compression better than FLAC for audio and PNG for pictures.

Ray-ban Meta Smart Glasses. At the Meta Connect Keynote, it wasn't all VR headsets and Snoop Dogg-powered AIs. Meta is looking to turn everyone into an IRL streamer by announcing the new Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses that will let wearers livestream to their followers and allow for some first-person POV filming. The Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses are an upgrade from Ray-Ban's Stories smart glasses that never quite took off because of poor battery life and recording capabilities.

Zuckerberg talking about the Meta Quest 3. We finally got more information on the much-talked-about Meta Quest 3 mixed-reality headset during today's Meta Connect Keynote. From the looks of it, Meta is going hard to bring mixed reality gaming and productivity to the masses and giving it a big performance boost over the already impressive Meta Quest 2. Meta announced the Quest 3 in June, but aside from giving a price, it was light on details.

PowerA Advantage with Lumectra. I feel bad for controller makers. The Xbox Core Wireless and the PlayStation DualSense are pretty much the best things you can put your hands on. Once you find a controller you like, you tend to stick with it. PowerA is going to try anyway. The company has always made reliable, affordable controllers that look good, and its Advantage line of Xbox controllers does a good job of feeling familiar while also trying some new things.

Razer, a company famous for putting RGB in just about everything, sometimes as a joke and sometimes not, finally just went and made RGB lightbulbs.
