A shooting near a south Phoenix auto repair shop left a man dead as police said another man admitted to the crime and claimed it was an act of revenge for harm he said was done against his granddaughter. Antonio Lopez Jr., 48, was charged on suspicion of second-degree murder in the death of 38-year-old Orlando Archuleta, according to court records.

For the third year in a row, authorities are using a billboard and offering a reward to help find who in May 2020 took 16-year-old Anaiah Walker's life in a suspected hit-and-run on Interstate 10. Buckeye police said the department and Silent Witness were offering a $12,000 cash reward to land a suspect in Walker's killing while the case is featured on electronic billboards along I-10 near Miller Road. The teen was found dead on May 22, 2020, on the I-10 median west of Watson Road.

An Arizona prison inmate convicted of murder in a 2021 shooting of a boy in Phoenix has died. Dupree Oquavion Rollins, 22, died March 23 at La Palma Correctional Center in Eloy, according to the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry. Rollins was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 22 years in March 2023, according to the Corrections Department.

Ramadan is coming to a close. Falling in the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, the appearance of the crescent moon denotes the start of Ramadan. Along with prayers and acts of charity, fasting is a hallmark of the month of Ramadan. Although Ramadan does feature elements of atonement among worshippers, this period is less about seeking forgiveness and more about taking time to reflect on self-improvement, worship, compassion and acts of charity, specifically zakat.
