    There were 25,740 votes cast this week in the race for the Victorville Chevrolet High School Athlete of the Week poll. Oak Hills’ Noah Walker ended with 39.97% of total votes cast by Daily Press readers. The track star received 10,287 votes, beating out 13 other high school athletes from across the High Desert. To earn a spot on the ballot, Walker took second place in the high jump at the CIF-SS Track and Field Division 1 Finals on May 17 with a mark of 6-6.

    The Sultana baseball team has a flair for dramatics to begin the CIF-Southern Section Division 2 playoffs. The Sultans pulled off a 6-5 walk-off victory over Loyola on Tuesday afternoon, giving the team its second extra-innings win through two playoff games. Sultana won on a game-tying home run from Eric Ruiz in the first round. This time, Enrique Casillas played the role of hero after hitting what appeared to be a routine pop-up with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the ninth.

Alexis Rodriguez, Silverado softball — Rodriguez led the Hawks to a pair of wins in the CIF-Southern Section Division 7 playoffs.

    Quran Clayton Jr. had a field day at the CIF-Southern Section Track and Field Division Finals on Saturday afternoon, May 17. The sophomore competed in three events at Moorpark High School and brought home two Division 1 medals. He qualified for next week’s CIF-SS Masters Meet in all three events. Clayton took first place in the 110-meter hurdles with a mark of 13.89 seconds, edging out Long Beach Poly’s Lynnox Newton’s time of 14.09 seconds.
