They are at the top of the rankings and by a wide margin. Seeing that number and the disparity of the second-most dead money team adds context for why the 49ers limited cash spending this offseason. They have acted like a kid who is reckless with their allowance money. The 49ers have made a lot of poor decisions with contracts and restructures.

Christian McCaffrey was the first player from the San Francisco 49ers to grace the cover of the Madden video game. He was given that honor for the last installment: Madden 25. Unfortunately, being the cover of the video game is viewed more as a curse than an honor. It's impossible to argue that the 2021 NFL draft was a debacle for the San Francisco 49ers. They spent three first-round picks to move up to the No. 3 overall spot to select Trey Lance. He was supposed to be their franchise quarterback for the foreseeable future. He couldn't even make it to his third season with the 49ers. All of those draft picks were wasted. It is easily the worst draft selection in 49ers' history, and one of the worst in the NFL draft considering the capital.

Drafting running backs in the third round has never worked out for the San Francisco 49ers. The last one drafted was Tyrion Davis-Price in 2022. Davis-Price barely lasted two seasons with the 49ers. He didn't even make it to the end of his second season. That is how much of a wasted pick he was. Luckily for Davis-Price, he was picked up by the Philadelphia Eagles, but he was more of a depth piece and was recently cut. Now, he has found a new home with the hopes of saving his career.

It was starting to become a serious concern for the San Francisco 49ers when they were undergoing their search for a new defensive coordinator. The writing was on the wall that they wanted Robert Saleh back. However, Saleh was still interviewing for head coaching vacancies. Luckily for the 49ers, Saleh was not hired to be a head coach. He would return to the 49ers after being away for five years. The echoing sentiment from players and coaches is that it feels like Saleh never left.
