The Ogun State Government, the police and other security agencies have failed to identify or capture the gunmen who shot and killed Taiwo Oyekanmi, the Governor’s Office Director of Finance and Accounts, exactly one year ago. FIJ spoke to family members and sources directly affected by what has been described as a premeditated crime. They expressed concerns about delayed justice. Oyekanmi was on official duty – withdrawing funds for the state government – when he was murdered.

The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) has released ‘Fisayo Soyombo, Founder of the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), on bail. President Bola Tinubu is about to face a lawsuit in August for retaining Charles Anosike, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet)’s director general, after petitions and letters showed that his appointment broke the law over seven months ago. FIJ on Monday saw court papers, petitions and letters delivered to minister of aviation Festus Keyamo, NiMet and Tinubu. The petitions and court papers shared common details: Tinubu appointed Anosike as NiMet’s DG in December 2023.

Cultists have murdered Samson ‘Mosquito’, a member of the Aye Confraternity, at Ijagun Road, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. Intelligence reports quoted 11:40 pm on Sunday as the time rival cult members cut and shot Mosquito, the victim’s nickname, to death. Mosquito’s assailants cut off his left hand. Naija Confra, a cultism monitoring group on X, confirmed Mosquito’s death with gory images on Monday.
