Montcalm County is reporting Michigan's first measles outbreak of 2025, with two additional cases confirmed Thursday. Brady Guilbault, the public information officer for the Mid-Michigan District Health Department, confirmed on April 17 that the two latest cases are tied to an initial case that was reported on April 9. A northern Michigan man accused of impersonating an emergency responder is headed to trial. Douglas Allen Smith, 66, of Lewiston, pleaded not guilty on April 11 to four charges connected with impersonating an emergency responder. Smith faces one misdemeanor charge for unlawful use of fire department/emergency medical services emblems and three felony charges of carrying a concealed weapon, possessing a firearm in the commission of a felony and impersonating a firefighter/EMS personnel.
