    The Newmarket Historical Society will honour one of the town’s most renowned authors with an evening for Mazo de la Roche tomorrow, April 16. The society will explore the life and works of the famed author, who wrote the popular Jalna series starting in 1927, a 16-book series that went on to sell more than 11 million copies. The event will be hosted at the Newmarket Performing Arts Theatre, with Annemarie Hagan as a guest speaker to highlight the author’s life.

    Newmarket council will examine how regulations can encourage more detached additional residential units to help provide needed housing in the community. Council will hold a special workshop Monday, April 14 on the units, which are separate, smaller buildings on existing residential properties. Council will also consider finalizing its decision to take down U.S. flags from arenas.
