A new Jewel-Osco will anchor the redevelopment of the long-vacant St. John Kmart, with an expected investment of $31 million to $33 million. Indianapolis-based commercial real estate firm DeMao Retail plans to transform the long-vacant big-box store on Wicker Avenue into a supermarket. Kmart closed in 2012 and the property has sat vacant ever since. St. John is looking at using $3.5 million in economic development revenue bonds to help fund the project.
