A few calmer and warmer days on the way for today and the weekend. No significant rain is expected in central and northern Alberta. That said, there’s a chance of a few widely scattered showers in western Alberta late Saturday. Wind gusts around 150 km/h were recorded and more than 10 centimetres (100mm) of rain fell in less than 12 hours across eastern parts of New Zealand. A state of emergency was issued in Christchurch as rivers spilled over their banks and roads had to be closed.
