City hall has begun awarding more than $90 million in construction contracts to close off the eastern side of Mount Royal to cars and buses — before the November election. Under the city’s plan, all that would remain of the car route, Camillien-Houde Way, is a cycling lane and pedestrian hiking path.

To my shock I learned he had died hours earlier. So I skipped my connecting flight home minutes before it left and stayed for the coming funeral, while my baggage moved on, including all my clothing other than my jeans and T-shirt.
