When Lufkin's Francisco Serrano ran full force into the fence while chasing after a foul ball in the second inning, it was apparent the Panthers were hungry for a win. They spent the next two hours showing how hungry they were. Jaxton Cordova threw four innings of shutout ball, the offense raced out to a big early lead and Grant Stafford slammed the door from there to give the Panthers a 4-1 win over the Bobcats in District 10-5A baseball action at Lufkin High School Tuesday night.

25th annual Women's Expo set for Thursday

The 25th annual Women's Expo is set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Pitser Garrison Convention Center. Charm East Texas, The Lufkin Daily News and Woodland Heights Medical Center host this annual event for women to connect them with relevant products and services offered locally. Coming off their second district loss in 10 games, it took the Lufkin Panthers a while to get their offense going against the rival Nacogdoches Dragons Friday night. Thanks to Miggy Flores, the slow start didn’t matter. Flores delivered a complete-game two-hit shutout as the Panthers completed a season sweep of the Dragons with a 3-0 win at Lufkin High School in 10-5A action. The Lufkin pitcher allowed two hits to the first six hitters and didn’t allow another hit the rest of the way.
