A British tourist has gone missing in Amsterdam after telling his friends that he had forgotten his passport as they went to fly home. Ryan Jones told his companions that he needed to go and get his travel documents before their flights on May 4, according to Dutch police. The 34-year-old walked away from his group at 2.17pm before making 'brief' telephone contact with them. He has not been heard from since.

The construction work to build the Curzon Street intercity terminus in Birmingham is so close to the 128-year-old Woodman that the barriers are now just 10ft from its side wall. The 'backstreet boozer' is hemmed in on three sides by the £570 million project and stands as an island in the development area.

The Right Reverend Dr Michael Volland is also a keen surfer when it comes to life away from his Church of England posting in Birmingham. His lengthy roll of endurance events includes the epic 100km Race to the Stones along the ancient Ridgeway and he is due to trade robes for running gear at Sunday's AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run.
