As you likely know, Donald Trump has been trolling the libs for many years now by suggesting he might seek an unconstitutional third term. You’ve probably also gathered that he’s made more aggressive insinuations in recent days, as part of a broader effort to menace his domestic and foreign enemies. He wants us to think he might run as JD Vance’s running mate in 2028, so that Vance can win the presidency within supposedly-constitutional bounds, then step aside.

I was less personally connected to Kevin Drum than some of the other writers who’ve memorialized him, because I was not a blogging early adopter. I was a physics student in college when all the real nerds were coding their nerd websites by hand or writing nerdy things on LiveJournal or Blogger or whichever platform. It’s not a stretch to say I’ve been playing catchup ever since. But once I’d hoofed it to the back of the pack, Kevin treated me like I belonged.

For my sins, I listened to Gavin Newsom interview the Trump loyalist Charlie Kirk for his new podcast. Ok, I listened to the first 35 minutes and seven seconds before I got pulled into another commitment, and haven’t been able to bring myself to finish the episode. The Gavin Newsom Show is the first significant product of a Democratic Party wide effort to break out of old media habits and eat into right-wing media dominance. It’s an important objective.
