More taxpayer money for lawyers as medical cannabis debacle rolls on

The medical cannabis debacle continues. In a theme that has become way too common, a representative from the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission was before the Alabama Legislature’s Contract Review Committee on Thursday asking for more money to pay lawyers. So far, the attorneys are the only ones to benefit from the legislature’s decision in 2021 to pass medical cannabis legislation. Going on five years later, we have yet to provide a single patient with actual cannabis.

Government is not bad. Repeat that to yourself over and over. Say it out loud. Stand in front of the mirror and watch yourself say it until you believe it. Because it’s true, and it’s way, way past time that people stop holding the thoroughly ignorant, self-harming belief that government, as a whole, is bad. Or wasteful. Or intrusive. Or incompetent. Oh, to be certain, there are portions of government that are all of those things. But they exist at the micro level.

This is not an opinion piece about Tommy Tuberville’s residency situation. Truly, it’s not. By now, you’re likely aware of my position on that matter – that there’s simply no way, given the mountain of documentation and other evidence, that Tuberville can establish that he’s lived in Alabama for the past seven years, and thus, he cannot meet the residency requirements of the state where he wishes to be governor. At this point, it doesn’t seem as if I’m alone in that belief.
Twinkle Cavanaugh appointed to USDA position, will resign as PSC president

After a decade and a half, Twinkle Cavanaugh is resigning from the Alabama Public Service Commission to accept an appointment as Alabama’s State Director for Rural Development at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins announced Cavanaugh’s appointment on Monday. Her last day as president of the PSC will be June 1. Sources told APR that Caroleene Dobson is likely to be appointed by Gov. Kay Ivey to replace Cavanaugh as PSC president.

The President of the United States issued on Monday a heartfelt and touching tribute to the country’s fallen heroes, reminding them (and all the rest of us), in all caps, that “the scum” in the White House the last four years were “radical” and “sick” and the “USA hating judges” were a problem now, but progress stopping “the monsters” was being made. He forgot to mention the fallen troops.

If you’d like to be the governor of Alabama, here’s your chance. On Wednesday, Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth announced that he would not be seeking the office that everyone assumed he was going to be seeking since basically the day he walked into the State House. Instead, Ainsworth is giving in to Tommy Tuberville, who will undoubtedly announce in the coming days his candidacy to govern a state in which he does not live. Swell. Ainsworth didn’t believe he could beat Tuberville.
