(June 24, 2025) - Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed a bill June 20 requiring all public elementary and secondary schools to conspicuously display a durable poster or framed copy of the Ten Commandments in every classroom. S. 10, 89th Reg. Legis. Sess. (Tex. 2025). Abbott signed Senate Bill 10 into law the same day the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that a similar Louisiana requirement violated the First Amendment's establishment clause. Roake v. (June 18, 2025) - A Tennessee law preventing transgender youth from obtaining puberty blockers and hormone therapy does not violate constitutional equal protection guarantees, the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled. United States v. Skrmetti et al., No. 23-477, opinion issued (U.S. June 18, 2025). In a 6-3 opinion issued June 18, Chief Justice John Roberts said the limits on gender-affirming care are sufficiently related to Tennessee's asserted interest in protecting the health and welfare of minors.
