Lawmakers in North Carolina have motioned to double the rate of tax for online sportsbooks. As part of the state Senate’s proposed budget, Senate Bill 257, for the 2025-2027 fiscal cycle put forward on Monday April 14, Republicans are looking to hike the tax rate from 18% to 36% from October 1 this year.

Playtech has announced the appointment of former DAZN executive John Gleasure as an independent non-executive director and the firm’s chair elect ahead of the impending departure of Brian Mattingley. Following the FTSE 250 supplier’s AGM next month, it is expected that Gleasure will succeed Mattingley as Playtech chair. Mattingley, 73, resigned from his post in January, yet stayed in the role to support the transition process.

The Netherlands Gambling Authority (KSA) has confirmed a four-percentage point drop in the nation’s channelisation rate for H2 2024, as the regulator said the black market is “about the same size” as the legal market. The regulator published its latest monitoring report, covering the last six months of 2024 (H2), revealing 91% of Dutch players only wager with a legal operator, a fall from H1 2024 when the KSA reported the channelisation rate at 95%.

BetMakers Technology Group has posted record cash flow as a listed company in its fiscal Q3 2025 results, with revenue up 3.7% year on year for the Australian supplier. Cash flow of A$3m (£1.4m) was reported for the three months ending 31 March 2025, representing a steep climb of A$4.3m quarter over quarter (QoQ). The business’ share price was up 15% at the time of writing, while 35 million fully paid ordinary shares in the company will be released from voluntary escrow later this month.

The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has launched an investigation into sports prediction markets operating in the state and vowed to “take all the necessary steps deemed appropriate”. The regulator announced the investigation on 11 April amid concerns over a lack of consumer protection, as scrutiny on the sector continues to ramp up after a recent flurry of cease-and-desist orders from several states.
