I got an interesting press release from the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council a couple days ago. (By the way, if you have strongly held feelings about the whole Gulf of Mexico/Gulf of America thing, the council has not officially changed their name, so don’t blame the messenger please.)Those of us who enjoy bottom fishing in the Gulf have been hit with sort-of unexpected “emergency” closures of red grouper and lane snapper several times over the past few years.

He was worried that we might see similar incidents here in Florida involving dolphins or perhaps manatees. I asked him for the source, and he referred me to an online article from CNN. I read it and could definitely see why he was concerned: Red tide is mentioned several times, and the effects described are quite scary.
