Kyle Ross-Imagn Images Lots of transactions today. Starting out, left-hander Evan Aschenbeck was promoted to South Bend from Myrtle Beach. It was clear that Low-A wasn’t challenging Aschenbeck, so it’s good to see the Cubs make the move sooner rather than later. Right-hander Frankie Scalzo Jr. was promoted to Triple-A Iowa from Double-A Knoxville. Knoxville added right-hander Antonio Santos. Finally, right-handers Jackson Kirkpatrick and Dominic Hambley join Myrtle Beach.

They make it up as part of a doubleheader sometime during the Saints series at Iowa from May 13 to 18. Knoxville SmokiesThe Knoxville Smokies got in the eyes of the Chattanooga Lookouts (Reds), 3-0. Grant Kipp got the win with five innings, allowing just two hits. He issued two walks and hit one batter. Kipp struck out six.

Terrific pitching for the I-Cubs tonight. Starter Chris Flexen went six scoreless innings and gave up just two hits. He struck out seven and walked one.
