The Stratford Festival ended 2024 with a million-dollar deficit as audience attendance fell short of expectations, underscoring the challenges many arts organizations still face even years after reopening from the COVID-19 shutdown. At its annual general meeting on Thursday, the repertory theatre company announced a $1.1-million operational shortfall for the previous season. The festival also reported a drop in ticket sales, with 430,000 seats sold in 2024, down from 443,000 in 2023.

Tarragon Theatre’s 2025-26 season will be its most ambitious since the pandemic, featuring nine productions that highlight both established and emerging Canadian artists. The lineup, announced Wednesday morning, will begin in September with Gregory Prest’s tragicomedy “Bremen Town,” one of the hit shows from the 2023 Next Stage Festival.
