Rio Tinto Puts Rare Argyle Ring Up for Sale

Rio Tinto has unveiled a diamond ring featuring one of the last stones from the company’s famous Argyle mine, pricing it at more than $1 million. The Argyle Rose has a radiant cut, 1.36-carat, fancy-deep-pink diamond at its center, Rio Tinto said Wednesday. Around this are 1.89 carats of pink and blue Argyle diamonds as well as 2.80 carats of white diamonds, with the design giving a rose effect.
Diamond Trader Evaded US Sanctions, Attorney’s Office Claims

The US has charged diamond trader Nazem Ahmad with conspiring to evade sanctions and other alleged offenses. Ahmad used a network of business entities to obtain approximately $160 million in artwork and diamond-grading services in America, the US Attorney’s Office said in a statement last week. The US placed Ahmad under sanctions in December 2019, prohibiting him from engaging in transactions with people in the US. It alleges he is a financier for Lebanese terror group Hezbollah.
