The data will be synthesised using a thematic synthesis approach, as described by Thomas and Harden.23 This approach involves three stages: (1) line-by-line coding of the findings from primary studies, (2) development of descriptive themes by grouping codes into related categories and (3) generation of analytical themes that go beyond the primary studies to address the review questions.
