Eleven years, five Olympics. And that just may be the end of the road. Today I received an e-mail from the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee stating that my credential application for Milan-Cortina 2026 had been denied and that I was put on the wait list. They stated that demand was high. To say I am disappointed and completely bummed out would be an understatement. This has been a journey of more than a decade that has taken me to Russia, Korea, China, Japan and France.

Near the end of the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, I offered up my rankings for the three Olympic experiences I had under my belt at that point. I updated the rankings after my fourth experience in Beijing and now it's time to put Paris in the mix. It's been almost a full week that I've been in Paris and I have a few observations. Driving in Paris is crazier than driving in Boston. The bus drivers here are aggressive and are not afraid to stick their buses in the smallest hole in traffic. They move right along no matter where they're going and it's rather impressive how they get through some of the heavier traffic. The Japan bus drivers three years ago weren't quite as aggressive in that rush hour traffic and it is definitely a plus.

Last night, Monday, July 8, marked two weeks until my journey to Paris kicks off with a flight from Logan Airport to Amsterdam and then on to Paris for my fifth Olympic experience. While there has been plenty of work that goes into every Olympic trip, this one actually seems like it's been a little easier than many of the others. Of course, probably the main reason for this is the fact that the last two Olympics took place during COVID, which made everything much more work than normal.

NEW YORK — Gabby Thomas has an Olympic experience under her belt and two Olympic medals she can wear around her neck. And as she gears up for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials ahead of the Paris Olympics, she took part in the Team USA Media Summit on Tuesday in New York City. The former Easthampton resident and graduate of Williston Northampton School was part of a panel on the power of women at the three-day media event.
