Pupils of two primary schools in Ibanda District are studying under trees after wind deroofed their classroom blocks. Three classroom blocks at Mushunga Primary School in Ishongororo Sub-county and Kemihoko Primary Schools in Ishongororo Town Council were deroofed last week, forcing learners to study under trees. Mushunga Primary School, with a total population of 532 learners, had three classroom blocks and one block was hit by a storm recently.

Ankole residents have turned to a marathon to combat the high HIV prevalence in the sub-region. According to the Uganda Aids Commission’s (UAC) 2024 report, 10 of the 13 districts in Ankole have higher HIV prevalence rates than the national average of 5.1 percent. Mbarara City leads with 11.1 percent, followed by Bushenyi at 9.1 percent, Kiruhura at 8.9 percent, and Mbarara and Rwampara both at 7.8 percent.

Police on Tuesday recovered the body of the Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital (MRRH) health worker who went missing on September 2. Security officers started the search for the 50-year-old senior mid-wife on September 3, after receiving reports from her husband that she disappeared the previous day.

The newly ordained Catholic priests and deacons from the Archdiocese of Mbarara have been challenged not to separate themselves from the realities of people they will serve. The call was made during the ordination mass of 13 priests and 17 deacons at Nyamitanga Cathedral in Mbarara City on Saturday.
