Reading is one of my favorite pastimes. It has been my entire life. I think my love for writing really derived from my love for reading. Reading a good story makes it so easy to appreciate well-constructed words. How those words bring to life characters and add color and light to a subject is truly the mark of a good story for me and ultimately what determines a story worth my time. Choosing words carefully shapes perceptions, influences actions and can either build or break relationships.

As a child, when I first heard or read that line, I was so relieved for young Dorothy that her journey seemed so easy. Was it really so simple? Just follow the magical path that appeared at your feet even after being swept away by a tornado? Don’t get me started on the “obstacles” she faced on the way there.
