Blacklight Born is the third and final installment of Alexander Darwin’s Combat Codes Trilogy.  If you’re looking for a high-energy action fantasy with a strong cast of characters, then definitely consider checking the series out. If you haven’t read the first two books in the series, then don’t read any further. You can check out my review of the first book, Combat Codes, here. Grievar’s Blood left the world of the Grievar’s on a knife edge.

If it wasn’t for Star Wars I might never have been a GeekDad. Many of you as old as I (50+) will remember a time when admitting you liked Star Wars (let alone Dungeons & Dragons or Warhammer) was a good way to find yourself scorned, or at the very least, bring a promising conversation to an end. It can be hard reviewing book three in a series. Prospective readers have to have read the other two books in the series to get much from the review, and if you have read those, you probably already know whether to read the next installment. Instead, I’ll assume you are entirely new to works of Shauna Lawless and aim to explain why you might want to pick up her Gael Song series.

Louder than Huner by John Schu is an internal dialogue of a teenage boy as he battles with low self-esteem and an eating disorder. Semi-autobiographical, the novel is written in an authentic voice, that conveys the misery and pain of a teenager desperately hurting.  What Is Louder Than Hunger? Louder than Hunger is an important book. I wanted to read it, as during my life, I’ve had a complicated relationship with food and suffer with poor body image.
