The 35-member Scottish Fiddlers Orchestra presents its annual Hermosa Beach concert on Saturday, April 12. This year’s performance features the dazzling Katie McNally, a Boston-based fiddler with electrifying energy. David Caskey: A fourth generation Hermosa Beach real estate office

by Kevin CodyIn 1948, Realtor Pat Anderson built a 715 square foot office on a triangular shaped lot at the northwest corner of Pier and Monterey avenues in downtown Hermosa Beach. It looked like any other peaked-roof beach cottage, except for being trapezoidal to accommodate parking. Anderson served two terms on the Hermosa Beach City Council. But his most important civic contribution may have been qualifying Hermosa for funds to build a new pier by proposing a fog horn on the end of the pier.

Asu Island: last surf trip, maybe not

Four long-time South Bay surfers go on a final surf trip to Indonesia. Or maybe not the final tripby Tom HortonGreg Armer, Raydy Landis, Michael Lee and I took a trip last summer to Asu Island on what we imagined would be our last surf adventure together. We range in age from 65 to 72. Asu Island is just west of Nias Island in North Sumatra, Indonesia. The tropical paradise is protected by a reeling left-hander. Getting there was, itself, a challenge.
