I am writing to you today about today about FISH of McHenry. If only corporate America could see how hard the directors and the volunteers at the FISH Pantry work together. Everyone gets along, no power trips. Our directors work so much behind the scenes, so many people in need are served. For Tasha Stringer, the pink ribbons that are on display everywhere from medical facilities to football uniforms for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, have a deeper meaning than for most. That’s because she has experienced the disease from every possible vantage point — from caring for patients at work to caring for family members at home to dealing with her own diagnosis two years ago.

Do you know a child, tween or teen who has participated in Grand County Library District’s Summer Reading Program; checked out a Launchpad, Read-Along; STEAM kit; or participated in one of the district’s age-specific events such as the “Teen Takeover?” Do you know someone who has purchased a used book at the Granby Fourth of July, Grand Lake Buffalo Day sales or at one of the branch libraries? If so, then you know someone who has benefited from the work of the Friends of the Grand County Library.

“In diversity, there is beauty, and there is strength,” acclaimed poet Maya Angelou said. Unifying diversity was celebrated at Laurel High School’s first Hispanic Heritage Month celebration on Sept. 20. By honoring the Hispanic heritage and culture, the Laurel School District is coming together to celebrate through various festivities throughout October. The Laurel School District is leading the charge in bringing together all the students and faculty in a fabulous fashion.
