RegionsNorth OtagoThe mystery of a "priceless" medal found at the Oamaru recycling centre and given to the family of a World War 2 soldier has partly been solved. It began when Oamaru genealogist Faye Ormandy found a soldier’s army belt at the Waitaki Resource Recovery Park shop last November. She began to trace its origins, including that of two medals attached dating to 1904 and 1921.

RegionsNorth OtagoForrester Gallery has an exhibit of new and contemporary works that reflect the "wider diversity" of the Waitaki District, thanks to a bequest. Former deputy principal of Waitaki Girls’ High School and Forrester Gallery volunteer Margery Uttley, who died last year made a bequest that has financed a collection of "modern works" in a new exhibition titled "Redefining Space".

Since taking over in June last year, the cinema’s owners, husband and wife team Chris and Grace Rottenberry, had their biggest opening during the first weekend of this school holidays. The Riviera at present operates two screens: one theatre seats 78 and the other 58.
