A councillor has hit out at an ethics investigation that saw him removed from a key committee, a decision which he claims will leave a Leicestershire village without a vote on plans for a huge housing estate. The inquiry was launched after Councillor Chris Boothby was alleged to have "shared confidential information". Coun Boothby admitted passing on an email from a resident to somebody the person had complained about in order to “mediate the situation”.

A former garage at the edge of Shepshed town centre has been earmarked for a block of seven flats. The site had previously been put up for auction after the garage closed down. The new homes, which have been submitted before Charnwood Borough Council (CBC) by PKM Properties No. 3 Ltd, looks to erect the block of flats on land at 8 Britannia Street. The site is said to have been home to a "garage with workshops", with the garage having closed down in July 2023.

A decision on the scheme was previously delayed by officials, but now looks set for the green light. If approved by Melton Borough Council (MBC), 298 homes look set to be built by Worthearly Ltd on the former Jeld Wen site on Snow Hill in Melton.
