As we approach the start of the new year, we must once again take time to reflect on the devastating impact this past year has had on the Jewish people. As we welcome the new year with all the chaos of the world today, we must never forget that Rosh Hashanah will always bring new beginnings, new stories, and new opportunities.

The bet is that owners of private Cambridge parking lots such as East Cambridge Savings Bank or Lesley University will open their unused spaces to shoppers, diners, worshippers and residents with nowhere else to go after bike lanes replace street parking. If the bet pays off, lanes on Main Street, Cambridge Street and Broadway will go in as recommended by the city’s Cycling Safety Ordinance with no pain to places and people dependent on cars.

Legendary rock ’n’ roll photographer Charles Daniels, who died Jan. 22, was honored Sunday at a Center for the Arts at the Armory memorial service. But his work isn’t done. His partner, Susan Berstler, continues to raise money to develop thousands of rolls of film from Daniels’ time as the legendary “Master Blaster” in the 1960s through his life in Somerville 60 years later – images of musicians, his neighborhood, and the world around him.

Shuttle buses run in February to make up for MBTA subway closings hurt as much as they helped, and when Cambridge faces the problem again in July, nearly twice as many daily riders are affected. The shuttle buses doubled the time it took to get from Alewife to Harvard during rush hour compared with the subway, according to a Monday memo from assistant city manager for community development Iram Farooq and transportation commissioner Brooke McKenna.
