Paddy Quinn, who is a current commander for the Northern Ireland Fire Service in the Omagh district, was giving evidence to the inquiry into the 1998 Real IRA bombing. He was an on-call officer at the time.

Jim Sharkey, who ran a newsagent shop in the County Tyrone town, was amongst those speaking at the inquiry into the 1998 bombing. Mr Sharkey told the inquiry that he had spoken to four of those who were killed before the explosion.

A man whose son was killed in the Omagh bombing says the public inquiry which gets underway this week will be "very difficult" but also "hugely important". Michael Gallagher, whose son Aiden was killed, said he plans to attend "every single minute of every day" if he can. The Omagh Bombing Inquiry will examine whether the worst atrocity of the troubles could have been prevented.

The closures of three rural primary schools have been described as "devastating" - one year after they were given a reprieve. Parents of pupils at Balnamore Primary School in County Antrim said they were "devastated and deeply disappointed" that the school was to close. Education Minister Paul Givan announced that Balnamore, outside Ballymoney, will shut at the end of the academic year. AdvertisementLack Primary School in County Fermanagh and Straidhavern School in County Antrim will also close.
