Deepal's launch in Singapore earlier in March this year also marked the official arrival of its parent, Changan Automobile, on our shores. And while we've already spent some time up close with the Deepal S07 here, our time at Auto Shanghai 2025 demonstrated that the Chongqing-based carmaker has a lot more up its sleeves than what Singapore presently knows. The motor show saw its three sub-brands celebrating the launch of a new model each: The Deepal S09, the Changan Nevo Q07 and the AVATR 06.

When I was young, I envied people who drove SUVs. They seemed sizeable, strong and somewhat stunning. Then I grew older and wiser and I realised SUVs aren't exactly for me. I want a car that's compact, cool and calm, yet feisty, flaming and flashy. I think a Toyota GR Yaris or a Volkswagen Golf GTI will do the trick, but the price... oh the price... Recently, I took the Volvo XC90 out for a drive.

Yes. Electric vehicles (EVs) and Chinese carmakers. They go hand in hand. There may be EVs from Audi, BMW, Hyundai, Kia, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, MINI... but when we hear the two words "electric vehicles" or the acronym "EVs", we immediately resonate them with Chinese carmakers. It's inevitable. So in order to find out more for myself, I decided to head down to Shanghai, China, to see things clearly... again.
