    In May of 2024, I had the pleasure of talking with Jason De León about Soldiers and Kings: Survival and Hope in the World of Human Smuggling at Bookshop Santa Cruz in Santa Cruz, California. De León is the director of the Cotsen Institute of Archaeology, the Lloyd E. Cotsen Endowed Chair of Archaeology, and a professor of anthropology and Chicana/o and Central American studies at the University of California, Los Angeles.
